Laboratory Medicine Department of Basavatarakam Indo American Cancer Hospital and Research Institute is a one stop shop for diagnosis in oncology at reasonable prices without compromising on quality. Services and Facilities:

Frozen Sections: Laboratory Medicine department provides haematology, cytology and histopathology, biochemistry & microbiology services along with substantial number of frozen sections. As you are aware, frozen sections enable a surgeon to take immediate decision to proceed with radical surgery or not as it firmly establishes malignancy in cases of doubt and also helps in adequacy of resection (whether surgical margins need to be re-excised).

Immunohistochemistry: The institute takes pride in being one of the major centers handling largest load of immunohistochemistry in the state with approximately 5000-6000 slides annually in cancer. These consist of various diagnostic and progrostic markers of cancer. Immunohistochemistry helps in definite diagnosis in poorly differentiated tumors, lymphomas and sarcomas etc. Without a baseline definite diagnosis, any definitive treatment is not possible. This is enabled by our wide panel of immunohistochemical markers which are available at very reasonable prices and have been catering to several canters across the state & outside the state for the past 10 years.

Colour Flow Cytometer: We also feel proud to state that we have been working with BD FACS Calibur four color flow cytometer which was installed 5 years ago for the first time in our state in this institute and has ever since been enabling definite diagnosis of acute, chronic leukemias and lymphoproliferative disorders. We also do stem cell enumeration (CD34 counts) by flow cytometry. Bone marrow aspiration and biopsies are performed on an outpatient basis. Diagnosis of acute & chronic leukemia was hitherto based on the study of peripheral blood & bone marrow morphology with cytochemical stains. The immunological classification by WHO mandates the use of immmunophenotyping & flow cytometry for exact lineage subtyping.   

Molecular Diagnostic Services: We take pride in stating that we were the first in our state to initiate molecular diagnostic services two years ago. Detection of BCR-ABL, PML-RARA /AML 1-ETO / TEL-AML-1/MLL / Inv 16 chromosomal rearrangements in haematological malignancies by fluorescence in situ Hybridization (FISH) is provided. Assessment of Her-2 /neu gene amplification in breast cancers, EWSR 1 & SYT break apart rearrangement in solid tumours is also rendered for the diagnosis, prognostication to determine the therapy and follow up.

Tumor Markers: We have the most advanced chemiluminiscence systems E411 from Roche to enable precise quantification of tumour markers (serum CEA, CA125, CA 15.3, CA 19.9, AFP, Beta HCG, PSA, β 2 microglobulin folate, Thyroglobulin etc. We are one of the very few centres in the state offering Free light chain analysis & immunoglobulin levels for the diagnosis & monitoring of Multiple Myeloma.

Fully Automated Culture & Identification Systems: We are also equipped with state of art fully automated culture & identification systems for precise and prompt identification of organisms.
