The need for modern
Cancer Institute was the dream of late Smt. Nandamuri Basava Taraka Rama Rao wife of late
Chief Minister Sri N T Rama Rao who herself succumbed to the deadly disease.
The late Chief Minister
and several philanthropists, scientists and physicians both in India and USA took the
concept further and created the Indo American Cancer Institute and Research Centre at
Hyderabad.
Today, the Indo American
Cancer Institute and Research Centre, a non-profit making organization, bestows care and
treatment on par with world standards of excellence available to everyone at an affordable
price to prove that world class treatment and facilities are as much the right of the less
privileged as it is the right of those who can afford to cross the seas for reliable and
modern treatment.
Statistics have shown
that the incidence of cancer in india is 160 cases for every 1 lakh of people, i.e., 16
lakhs of new cases every year as per the National Cancer Registry Project. This
unprecedented figure exceeds all bounds of dreaded imagination and threatens to assume
even more gigantic proportions if drastic measures are not promptly taken.
Professionally run by
two Boards of Trustees, one based in India and one from the United States of America, this
Institute has the inputs of people from different walks of life, committed to the cause of
fighting Cancer by timely diagnosis and treatment.

proud, in the heart of Hyderabad City, The Indo American Cancer Institute and Research

Prevention is better than cure
It
has been aptly said that a case prevented is worth a hundred treated.
Cancer has proved to
be preventable. But in order for effective prevention and control , there has to be
widespread awareness of the causes of cancer and how the disease can be avoided. The Indo
American Cancer Institute strives to create public awareness both for cancer prevention
and for timely detection and treatment, through the creation of Satellite Centres in
remote tribal and rural areas and urban slums, and through conducting Cancer Screening
programs.
Ensuring accurate diagnosis 
Diagnostics are the
back-bone of Therapy. A wrong diagnosis is cause for even greater grief than a missed
case. The Indo American Cancer Institute aims at faultless diagnosis through
state-of-the-art equipment , manned by an experienced team of highly qualified
specialists. Advanced imaging techniques include the use of conventional X-ray,
Mammography, CT scan, Ultrasound, etc. Diagnostic needs are met through specialized
departments such as Pathology, Microbiology and Biochemistry equipped with latest
fully automated equipment.
World class Facilities and
Treatment
The
Indo American Cancer Institute and Research Centre offers
state-of-the-art treatment on par with the best available in countries
like U.S.A. and U.K. A team of Specialists constituting Tumor
Board study the individual cases and recommend the treatment deemed to be most effective.
Medical Oncology
Involves the use of
conventional chemotherapy or drug therapy for all cancers and includes a special program
in bone marrow transplant and intraperitoneal chemotherapy.
Radiation Oncology
Uses Gamma rays and
other radiant or particulate energies in two forms of radiation therapy namely external
beam therapy and brachytherapy. Gamma rays or electron beams are directed at the tumor from
outside the body using a Cobalt Unit or a high-energy Linear Accelerator. Both these
procedures are carried out with precision and accuracy with the help of Treatment Planning
System and Simulator without any undue harm to the surrounding areas of the cancer
affected areas. In Brachytherapy miniscule radioactive pellets are introduced directly into
the body, next to or inside the tumor, for localised applications, through remote after
loading HDR/PDR/Brachytherapy units Gamma med 12i and Varisource, first of its kind in
Andhra Pradesh.
Surgical Oncology
Caters to specialized
surgical procedures for the central nervous system, head and neck, gastrointestinal,
thoracic, breast, gynecologic, urological, orthopedic tumors etc. The treatment is
centred
on organ preservation techniques and also includes advanced plastic and reconstructive
surgery with post-surgical rehabilitation wherever necessary.

Towards
greater expertise
The
Indo American Cancer Institute and Research Centre has an in-house
Learning Centre for Oncology Education and Training for Physicians,
Nurses, Technologists, Researchers and even patients. The Learning
Resource Centre focuses interactive learning and houses a large
Conference area, an exclusive library devoted to the study of Oncology.

The
Indo American Cancer Institute and Research Centre is a modern building
complex equipped with a 16 bed Intensive care Unit to provide both
Medical and Surgical Critical Care with most modern diagnostic and
treatment facilities from highly specialized Technical Staff and qualified
medical Personnel and Scientists, to equipment that facilitates the most detailed and
precision based diagnostic procedures. The Institute has left no stone unturned in its
quest to make global standards of cancer treatment available to every cancer patient in
India, all under one roof.

Inputs
The Indo American Cancer
Institute and Research Centre, has a scientific advisory panel of leading cancer
specialists from major medical centers in the U.K. and U.S.A. whose experience and
expertise will be drawn on regularly. Members of the panel will personally visit the
Institute to review the cases, provide guidance and contribute their valuable inputs
towards the maximum benefit of the Institute's cancer program. They will also aid in Staff
Training and provide consultation services through an elaborate international
teleconferencing system.
