 Radiation Oncology Department:


BRACHYTHERAPY:
Unit: GAMMAMED : 12I & Varisource both HRD units
They are the first high dose rate brachytherapy unit installed in A.P. It has the facility to provide the pulse dos rate mode of treatment which is comparable to low dos rate system. It has maximum 24 channel treatment at a time. The source employed here is Iridium (192) with activity of 12 curie at a maximum. This unit can treat all of Brachytherapy. 

1)    Intestitial implants
2)    Intra luminal implants
3)    Intra cavity implants


        The source is programmed for every mm to deliver the required dose as prescribed. It is windows NT based operating system. Hence it is very easy accessible for operator. Since it is computed based unit before execution of treatment, the radiation dose distribution around the cancer area can be seen and prescription by the doctor can be done selectively for required region of tumor area.
        The entire treatment can be completed within 10 minutes. The procedure is done in minor OT. The position of applicator can be visually seen with the help of simulator.

THERATRON 780E:
                  This is a modernized unit can be isocentrically rotated through out 360 degrees. The isocentre accuracy can be maintained to +/- 1mm. Patient is aligned with the help of the laser alignment systems. It has high safety interlocks to avoid unnecessary exposure to patients, staff, and other workers. The safety interlocks are there for wedge application, door, operations etc., The status of the patient displayed from control console, hence operator can know everything visually. Every treatment is assured as per calculated time.


LINEAR ACCELERATOR: (PRIMUS):
                    This is the first linear accelerator installed in A.P. it has two modes of photons energy 6 X 15 MV and 6 modes of Electron. Very deep sited tumors can be treated with the help of high energy photons.
Superficial tumors can be treated with the help of multiple mode of electron energy based on its depth. The unit has small cone system specifically to treat very small superficial tumors by electrons of size 2 cm minimum. The unit is completely computer control and has large safety interlock circuits which helps to know the amount of radiation released from this machine during the time of treatment. Every treatment is preselected time based on computerized treatment planning system. It has asymmetric job facility to shield any unwanted area. Similarly the unit can be upgraded to multi leaf colimeter IMRT (Intensive Modulator Radial Therapy)


SIMULATOR:
                   Precise and high quality simulation plan can be done. This is a stable precise system, which controls fluoroscopic and radiographic capabilities. It duplicates machine set ups at the same time it fulfills needs of cobalt treatment and linear accelerator treatment techniques. It is window NT based system, user friendly, cooperator and helps the entire team of radiation oncology to treat the patient. This unit gives the high resolution pictures and thus serves the radiation oncology to localize the tumor region.


Treatment Planning System: Every patient treatment is planned in the computerized treatment planning system with the help of theraplan package system. The radiation is assured to reduce the dose to normal tissues and at the same time to give more dose tumor. This system is user friendly. Thus radiation oncology is able to get all the related dos distribution.

Radiology Department


Dept. of Radiology and imagiology:
                           This is an important department in a hospital which assists the clinician in diagnosing the disease.

EQUIPMENTS:

1)    Whole body CT Scan (SOMATOMART )
This equipment is used for the scanning of the brain, chest, abdomen, pelvis and  the extremities. Accurate extension, spread and diagnosis of the disease can be  interpreted. Used for Radiotherapy, planning and guided FNAC of the lesions.


2)    800 mA X-ray machine with triple field image intensifier.
Used for contra studies of the gastrointestinal tract. Fluoroscopic assisted placement of the catheter, drains and other intervention procedures like diagnostic
and therapeutic ERCP. 


3)    160 mA X-ray machine with spot device:
This X-ray machine with high frequency generator and fast screens helps in performing routine radiographic X-rays using low radiation.


4)    Mammomat 3000 for mammography:
Fully automatic mammographic X-rays for the breast.    Mammographic guided    biopsy of small lesions of the breast. The magnification and the compression features  help in accurate diagnosis of small lesions of the breast.


5)    Ultra sound Scanner:
Sonoline Prima with the convex, high frequency linear and trans vaginal probes. High frequency linear probe is used to diagnose small lesions in the breast, thyroids, scrotum and musculoskeletal system. Complete examination of the female pelvic organs performed with the transvaginal probe. The convex probe is used for the routine scanning of the abdomen and chest.


6)    Portable X-ray:
For bed-side X-rays of the patients who cannot be shifted to the department.
